Lawmakers urge Obama to rethink Afghan strategy

Former presidential contenders Ron Paul, a Republican, and Democrat yahooDennis Kucinich told reporters the administration needed to clarify its policy in Afghanistan.
Paul said the letter was "just urging caution because we're hoping, with the new administration, that we'll have an administration that will lend itself more to diplomacy and working through other means other than always military confrontation."
"Sending 17,000 troops over there and continuing the drone bombing of Pakistan is hardly a change in policy," he added.

Ron Paul Wants To Audit Federal Reserve – HR1207 Would Make Fed More Transparent

The unthinkable may happen, according to Ron Paul and his supporters; The end the fedFederal Reserve may be audited. This would be the first full audit in the Feds’ 96 year history.
The Federal Reserve was originally formed in 1913 by a vote of Congress in an effort to give large national banks control over the monetary system. In creating this nation’s third central bank, it was hoped that the Fed could prevent panics and depressions. The dissolution of the Second Bank of the United States was President Andrew Jackson’s biggest achievement. Jackson was nearly killed by an assassin’s bullet.

CAMPAIGN FOR LIBERTY LABELED TERORIST?

Maybe you've heard, or maybe not, but the Missouri State Police think gatheryou might be a security threat.
Why? Because you support Ron Paul and the Campaign for Liberty. Also, because maybe you own guns, oppose abortion or homeschool.
Even, and I'm serious, because you support the U.S. Constitution.
I know, it's ridiculous...and probably steams you a bit.
But here at Campaign for Liberty we are going to give this foolishness the treatment it deserves. More on that in a moment. Let me give you a bit more background.
As you may be aware by now, the Missouri Information Analysis Center (MIAC) recently released a report titled, "The Modern Militia Movement" to over one thousand Missouri law enforcement officers.

Bruno vs. Ron Paul

I attended the first screening of Bruno here in Los Angeles. I'm a huge Ron Paul supporter. When Ron Paul came on screen the majority of the audience cheered, clapped, and hollered. The Slate article was inaccurate regarding Ron Paul's scene however. When Bruno pulled his pants down, Ron Paul jumped up and tried to leave the bedroom, but was blocked by Bruno. Ron Paul yelled, "Get out of here," and pushed him aside. As Ron Paul was leaving the hotel room walking towards the elevators, he said something to the effect of, "That guy's queerer than blazes." Ron Paul was visibly uncomfortable, but he didn't do anything that would reflect poorly on himself.

Ron Paul: Earmarks Don't Add Up

texas straight talkEarmarks seem to be the hot topic this week, and as a fiscal conservative I am dismayed so many people deliberately distort the earmarking process and grandstand to make political points. It is an easy thing to do with earmarks. It takes a little more time and patience to grasp the reality of what earmarks really are.
To be sure, if earmarks were the driving force behind explosive government spending as some have been led to believe, that would be a good reason for all the fuss. The misconception seems to be that members of Congress put together a bunch of requests for project funding, add them all together and come up with a budget. The truth is, it is not done that way

Ron Paul debates Stephen Baldwin on Legalizing Marijuana on CNN Larry King 03/13/2009

The Federal ban on marijuana is “faith based, conservative,” Stephen Baldwin claims. But it’s really not ‘faith based’ or ‘conservative.’ Jesus never lorded it over, and neither should we. WWJD? Jesus would be Constitutional (the law of the land) and compassionate (allowing people to make their own decisions). It’s unconstitutional, unfair (how do we regulate nicotine and alcohol), uncompassionate, and even ’silly’ (banning very useful, non-THC-producing hemp too) Ron Paul demonstrates. Constitutionally, it should be a states issue.

Ron Paul: Congress 'drinks a lot of alcohol' but won't legalize pot

"That's just a fact," claimed Baldwin. "I don't care what anybody says. raw storyWhat the debate is. If you smoke marijuana at a young age, that'll usually lead to alcohol abuse and harder drugs."
Paul dismissed his concern as "silly."
"The most addictive drug in the country, in the world, is nicotine," he said. "Nobody talks about nicotine being a gateway drug, so there's no sense to that. And besides, [marijuana] is not nearly as addictive as alcohol. If you're a consistent person and you think the government should be regulating personal behavior, you should be in favor of prohibition of alcohol."

A VIABLE plan to save our Constitutional Republic

No, the title of this article is not just a cheap hook to boost readership. nolanThere is a way to take back our Constitutional Republic within perhaps a matter of months by the current number of the “informed” Americans who still see our Constitution as the supreme law of the land. All it takes is for us to come together and implement a fairly simple strategy.
While Ron Paul has arguably done more to wake up and educate the masses than anyone in recent history, it isn't enough to just "know". You may know the bus is coming down the road but if you don't move out of the way, you'll get run over. We may know that our Constitutional Republic is rapidly being replaced by Socialistic Statism controlled by the multi-national corporate elite, but if we don't take action immediately, we will lose forever that grand experiment of government of the People, by the People, and for the People.

Time for prayer

Paul made a sharp distinction between capital and credit, a notion that asia timesthe Fed does not seem to understand. Credit can be created in unlimited fashion and through printing money; capital, however, cannot be produced by the Fed's liquidity creation. Capital is real consumer goods - corn, wheat, oil, and so on - that are truly produced and saved to be transformed via investment into machinery, cars, fixed capital, and the like.
Paul made the point that banks do want to lend; they had lost their real capital in the form of bad loans and were now faced with negative real interest rates; the government recapitalization through printing money was fictitious and could not reconstitute real capital. He sharply criticized central banks for continuing with failed policies and accelerating money printing, thus undermining exchange rates and banking and economic stability. He stated that current out-of-control money printing was only preparing for a collapse of exchange rates and more devastating financial chaos.

Borrowing and Spending Will Prolong Economic Crisis, Paul Says

Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), a former presidential candidate, said the federal government cannot borrow, spend, or print its way out of the current financial crisis, as it is trying to do, and that similar actions by the government in the 1930s only prolonged the Great Depression.
The only solution, Paul said, is to allow the market to clean out the bad investments, and lower taxes and regulations to allow people and businesses to invest and thrive and create real jobs.

Ron Paul, old coot who warned of economic turmoil, thinks he was right

Here's how silly Ron Paul is: He set a budget for his campaign and lived la timeswithin it. Flew commercial. Stayed at Super 8's. No motorcades.
In fact, he ended with no deficit, which is how he thinks the federal government should operate.
Ron Paul & BabyIn point of fact, Paul ended his campaign with a surplus. Can you imagine anything so silly in this day and age?
Paul warned all during his campaign about a looming economic disaster if government just kept growing and growing and printing more money like Republicans and Democrats wanted. Many said he was loony. His noisy followers too. Today, just because the old geezer predicted correctly, Paul thinks someone will listen to him? Get real!
Paul was on Bloomberg TV on Wednesday, and he absolutely amazed the reporters by patiently explaining that we got into this national financial whirlpool by spending too much government money, and so the solution was probably not to spend even more government money. Ever heard anything so wacky?

A movement for liberty

Yes, it’s worth noting that Obama, who favors an interventionist government, themichigandailyattracted most of the country’s young voters. For every young adult who voted for Republican candidate John McCain on Election Day, two voted for Obama. But while it may seem that young voters are becoming ever more socialist in their views, the Ron Paul campaign revealed otherwise. In many states’ Republican primary elections, Paul — who supports dismantling the federal income tax and significantly shrinking the size of government — received from young voters nearly twice the percentage of votes than he received from other age groups. His college-student support was bolstered by his frequent visits to university campuses, and he even spoke at the University of Michigan while Obama and McCain did not.
But even now that the 2008 presidential election is over and the energy surrounding the Ron Paul campaign has diminished, students around the nation are continuing to pursue efforts to counter the nation’s socialist policies.

It Is Time to Admit the Obvious: The Political Classes Deliberately Are Blocking an Economic Recovery

The key to holding power, however, is blocking an economic recovery lewrockwelland having an economy in which double-digit unemployment is the norm. Don’t think that this would trigger a revolt from the American voters. Once the voters have come to believe that their own futures are tied to the whims of the political classes, they will vote their personal security. Furthermore, the administration and Congress will do everything possible to further empower labor unions, and we can look for huge inroads as the government simply will declare that businesses and organizations become unionized – or else. Organized labor is a political creation, and that means that every working individual is going to constantly be scrutinized for political loyalties – if that person wants to keep his or her job.

Democratic Party efforts to create Rush Limbaugh as the bobble-head image of lrcthe Republican Party is nothing but a diversion designed - they "hope" - to distract popular attention from another Republican, whose philosophy and policies would soon destabilize the political racket enjoyed by both parties. Increasing numbers of people are becoming aware that Ron Paul's message is not about the man - as distracted as most Americans are by the cult of personality in all of politics - but about the reality that both parties, the media, and academia work so feverishly to sweep under a collective rug. As we saw in the so-called "debates" last year, the political establishment must still keep Ron away from public view, lest his words unsettle the minds of Boobus Americanus.

Five More States Invoke the 10th

Last week, HUMAN EVENTS reported that eleven states, Washington, human eventsNew Hampshire, Arizona, Montana, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Georgia, South Carolina, and Texas, had all “all introduced bills and resolutions” declaring their sovereignty over Obama’s actions in light of the 10th Amendment.
These actions are in response to the Obama administration’s faux-“stimulus” legislation which directly assaults the rights of states to reject the money coming from the federal government. So far, several Republican governors -- among them South Carolina’s Mark Sanford and Louisiana’s Bobby Jindal -- have said they would refuse all or part of the stimulus money because of the constitutional infringements and because of the additional unfunded liabilities they impose on the states.
This week, HUMAN EVENTS is happy to report that five more states have decided to invoke the 10th as well.
These five -- Tennessee, Kentucky, Kansas, Indiana, and West Virginia -- have all begun their action under the 10th Amendment in a bid to protect themselves from what they view as nothing less than an unconstitutional usurpation of power on the part of the Obama administration.

Congressman: Audit the Fed's books

U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, who is seeking to abolish the Federal Reserve, has wndstepped up his attack, introducing an interim plan that would require the private agency to open all of its books for examination.
Paul has pursued his plan to eliminate the Fed for years, arguing Congress should "reassert its constitutional authority over monetary policy."
The Constitution, he said, gives Congress, not the private Federal Reserve, "the authority to coin money and regulate the value of the currency."
Now he's introduced another new plan, to "reform the manner in which the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System is audited by the Comptroller General of the United States and the manner in which such audits are reported."
The new plan, H.R. 1207, may seem a little vague, but there was nothing left to the imagination when he spoke on its behalf in the U.S. House.

I'm Furious

I'm honest, loyal and hard-working. I've struggled, scratched and clawed campaignforliberty1.jpgmy way along for 50 years to make sure I could take care of myself. I've prayed a lot, made mistakes, gone over speed bumps, even crashed a couple times, and I've always somehow righted myself. Now that my life should be smoother sailing after all these years, I discover that I must put that life on hold to babysit a bunch of worthless politicians who's britches are too big for them.
And it makes me furious.
I have a new mission in life: To protect and serve my country. And I am never alone. No. I am always standing right next to the very best of the best. The Patriots. Whether they're down the street or a continent away, I'm always with them.
And the fury inside me builds a personal strength I never knew I had.

Is Spending the Answer?

texas straight talkThis week, Congress and the administration once again showed their lack of economic understanding, as they ramped up spending to record levels. On the surface, maybe it does look to some like the economic crisis is a liquidity problem, that the economy is in trouble because money is not changing hands at the pace it once did in the boom years. They believe that to get back to a booming economy money needs to start changing hands again – and the quickest way to do this is for the federal government to massively expand spending to pump new money into the system. If this is the extent of their understanding, no wonder they call for spending, taxing, bailouts and inflation.
If spending was the solution, we never would have had a problem.

On Monday he posted, "On Transparency of the Fed," which applauded the Fed's recent initiatives to enhance its transparency and accountability. However, Paul went on to say, "But with so much of the Fed’s business cloaked in secrecy, these latest initiatives will not even scratch the surface of the Fed’s opaque operations." Furthermore, according to Paul, "People are demanding answers and explanations for our economic malaise, and we should settle for nothing less than the whole truth on monetary policy."

A voice in the wilderness no more

A hot, sticky crowd, overflowing from a room meant for 478 people, whoops it guardian ukup when Andrew Napolitano makes that claim. They are here for the Liberty Forum, an unofficial offshoot of the 36th annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, DC. All of them are supporters of Ron Paul.
The persistent popularity of Paul, the 72-year-old libertarian congressman who raised $35m in a quixotic Republican presidential bid, is one of the head-turning shocks of CPAC. Walk into the Omni Shoreham Hotel, the site of the conference, and a smiling volunteer for the Campaign for Liberty – Paul's new organisation – will hand you a flyer for one of their meetings. They're everywhere.
What's changed in two years? It's not only that Republicans have lost an election – it's that Republicans do not yet understand why they lost. They are not willing to consider that they lost votes because Americans wanted more social democratic policies. The official explanation for their loss is that Republicans spent too much money and lost touch with their values. It only makes sense that Paul, who has been arguing for years that the GOP needs to get back to the values of pre-New Deal America, should be winning over young hearts and minds.
