The neocons, that is. Here is David Hill on David Horowitz's site claiming that Ron Paul is doing badly in Texas. His evidence? That Ron lost a Rick Perry-rigged straw poll that only party hacks could vote in. Then he describes polling he allegedly did in Ron's "suburban Houston district." But Ron's 14th district is nowhere near Houston. Hill even claims that the socialist NASA is headquartered in Ron's district. But that is not true either. Clearly Hill thinks Ron still represents the old 22nd district, but that hasn't been true since 1985! Clearly, the "noble lie" has fallen on hard times. BTW, Ron has won his congressional district with increasing majorities, culminating in landslides. That will be true in 2008 too, since he can--thanks to an LBJ law--run for congress and president at the same time. November 29, 2007Permalink
In short, McCain should be accusing the head of his party, George W. Bush, or his family, of causing World War II, not the sort of “isolationism” Ron Paul supposedly advocates. But then, of course, John McCain is a neocon, albeit one who will soon drop from sight in the presidential campaign, as increasing numbers of people realize Ron Paul is the only viable candidate, one who is not so much “isolationist” as dedicated to constitutional principles.
It was George Washington who wisely stated that the country must avoid “foreign entanglements” and “foreign alliances, attachments, and intrigues,” as “overgrown military establishments” are, “under any form of government… inauspicious to liberty, and which are to be regarded as particularly hostile to republican liberty.”
John McCain, however, does not represent “republican liberty,” but instead its obverse: neocon military totalitarianism, both abroad and at home. November 29, 2007Permalink
As many observers, blogs and alternative news sources point out regularly on the Internet, the economy is teetering, the US national debt is overwhelming, the country is engaged in at least two "hot wars" and threatening a third with Iran, the Patriot Act and other provisions are overturning traditional American civil liberties. Yet the debate did not spend much time on these issues.
What was the seeming focus? Immigration, gays in the military, the role of religion in political life, etc. What else was predictable? Only limited government candidate Ron Paul (R-Tex) seemed engaged and willing to comment on such serious issues. Perhaps for this reason he once again finished ahead of the pack by a wide margin in various Internet polls. November 29, 2007Permalink
Senator McCain shot back that, "We never lost the battle in Vietnam; it was American public opinion that cost us the war." Senator McCain obviously doesn't get it. Public opinion didn't cost us the war in Vietnam. Rather public opinion pulled us out of a bad foreign policy in Vietnam, which resulted in things getting better, not worse. McCain's limited vision that wars are all about "winning" the war (by which he means using military intervention to force other countries to bend to our national will) shows its tattered logic when compared to the reality of what happened after we left Vietnam as the "losers." The reality is that America's leaders over that 20 year period set us up to be the losers by putting us there in the first place. In that scenario, the only way to "win" was to withdraw. Anyone who has followed Paul's voting record for any length of time knows that he first consults the U.S. Constitution before voting in favor of or against any piece of legislation. If it isn't allowed in the Constitution, then Paul does not vote for it. Pretty simple.
Potter's concern seems to be with the elimination of "all manner of [federal] government agencies," many of which did not exist prior to the 20th century. What Potter may have forgotten is something known as the Tenth Amendment, which leaves powers not delegated to the federal government up to the states. November 29, 2007Permalink

Yet another Internet campaign to spread the word about the presidential campaign of Ron Paul (R-Tex) is evident at Ronpaulbillboards.com. Here are our counts for how long each candidate spoke during the first part of the debate
Romney -- 7:03, during 9 times
McCain -- 5:09, during 4 times
Giuliani -- 5:08, during 9 times
Thompson -- 4:38, during 4 times
Huckabee -- 4:14, during 5 times Paul -- 3:27, during 4 times
Tancredo -- 2:20, during 4 times
Hunter -- 2:16, during 3 times
One note -- Huckabee did not get a chance to speak until 26 minutes into the debate, and Paul did not get his chance until more than a half hour into the debate. November 28, 2007Permalink
Analysis/Opinion - The CNN/Youtube Republican debate held in St Petersburg Florida fell short. CNN’s host Anderson Cooper directed most of the questions to Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney and he continuously allowed Romney and Giuliani to speak longer than the time allotted to them. It was most noticeable that Ron Paul was given the least amount of time to speak of any of the candidates.
The extra time did not help Romney or Giuliani both of whom did not do to well explaining their poor records on illegal immigration. Romney and Giuliani also looked a little silly repeating the same slogans from previous debates. November 28, 2007Permalink
On the other hand, Paul’s performance was clear and concise. It is always surprising to hear his cogent responses in the short time alloted to him. His historical knowledge and unwavering commitment to freedom and the Constitution places him on far higher level than all the other candidates (Tancredo is an exception to this criticism; though largely interventionist in his philosophy). In order to prove Ron Paul’s surge in the polls, McCain lashed out at him concerning Paul’s ardent opposition to the war. McCain accused Paul of being an isolationists. Paul corrected the ridiculous assertion from McCain and re-asserted the Founding Father’s commitment to trading with nations, but not seeking monsters over sea. November 28, 2007Permalink
McCain was obscured here by jeers and boos and cheers all at once from the crowed auditorium. Poor CNN Anchor Anderson Cooper had no chance against the audience.

Ron Paul offers a forceful rebuke in response to John McCain's attack in Wednesday's Florida YouTube debate which stated that "you [isolationists like Ron Paul]" allowed Hitler to come to power with that kind of attitude." EDITORIAL - The CNN/YouTube debate Wednesday evening surfaced another opportunity for the majority of the candidates to re-hash many of the same failed policies of the current administration and provide non-answers to many of the direct questions asked, but it also gave Ron Paul an opportunity to educate Arizona Senator John McCain on who exactly the military is giving their money to. Some jerk just claimed on CNN that Ron Paul lied [claiming Ron Paul only had 2000] in tonight’s CNN-Youtube debate when he said that there were 5,000 people at his rally in Philadelphia.

McCain accused Paul of what he called the same sort of appeasement that allowed Hitler to take power and WWII to happen, and told him he’d just returned from Iraq and said he had a message for Ron from “the troops” — and the audience let him have it. Paul put it right back in his face by reminding him that he has received more donations from active duty military personnel than any other Republican candidate. November 28, 2007Permalink
The Republican Presidential candidates participated in a 2 hour debate this evening entertaining questions from people as submitted via YouTube. By land, by air and by sea, the disciples of Ron Paul converged on the debate hall here in Saint Petersburg, Fla., in the hours before the debate here tonight. There were two planes circling overhead, one flying a Ron Paul banner, another with lights spelling out his name Goodyear Blimb-style. A ship circling in the bay just outside the hall was festooned with Ron Paul paraphernalia, blaring martial music. In the park, just beyond the security fences erected around The Mahaffey Theater, the Paulites outfitted a group that was decidedly young and decidedly loyal with shirts and stickers and other assorted Paul gear. If FOX is actually Fiuliani, the old conservative moniker for CNN--Clinton News Network--has validity too. I've been concerned for sometime that tonight's debate--thanks to his surge--would be Smear Ron Paul Time. Instead of putting him off in the corner and ignoring him, as in the past, CNN may go directly after him in agitprop fashion, via allegedly independent YouTubes (though CNN picks the questions, and professional hate merchants have undoubtedly been preparing propaganda spots too). I've had 16 anxious emails on this topic today, so I am far from the only worrier. November 28, 2007Permalink
The Constitution was not designed for an agrarian society. It was designed by those who lived in an agrarian society for the purpose of securing individual liberty and individual rights. As Dr. Paul puts it, freedom is "the absence of government coercion." By limiting the coercive powers of the federal government, the Constitution freed the creative powers of the American people and allowed them to create the most prosperous society in the history of the human race. Why must we always vote for the lesser of two evils? Why are politicians considered corrupt, sleazy or incompetent, merely willing to say or do whatever it takes to get elected?
As voters in this constitutional republic, we must take full blame. Fortunately, you have the opportunity to reverse these trends and restore honesty and integrity to the White House.
By registering Republican and voting for Ron Paul in the upcoming presidential primaries, you can do your part to get our nation headed toward the right track again. November 28, 2007Permalink
We have been characterized, whether fairly or unfairly, as an "internet campaign." What better time then for Dr. Paul to shine as he fields questions generated by individuals on the internet? I can't be certain, but given that many of our supporters are technology friendly, I'm sure that CNN received a fair amount of questions submitted by Ron Paul supporters.
Tonight is also the premiere of our supporter-created television commercial. I haven't even had the opportunity to view the submissions myself, so I am looking forward to seeing the commercial for the first time tonight during the debate. November 28, 2007Permalink
The campaign's fourth-quarter goal is $12 million. If the campaign hits this number, it would exceed anything gained by any of the Republicans in all of the third quarter (I'm excluding Mitt Romney because of his personal donations to his own campaign). Paul's total for the year would then exceed $20 million, almost exclusively from individuals. How can anyone say with a straight face he doesn't have support? November 28, 2007Permalink

I have never contributed to a presidential campaign before. I have never put a political bumper sticker on my car before. And I have never written a letter like this before. I have done all three because for the first time in my life I truly believe that there is a chance to return this nation to the rule of law under the Constitution. Traditional Republicans feel betrayed by the Bush Administration, and anti-war and pro-civil liberties Democrats are beginning to see through the hypocrisy of their own candidates. The time is right for a man like Ron Paul, and Ron Paul is precisely the man we need for these times. As Judge Andrew Napolitano recently commented after reviewing a litany of tyrannical, post 9/11 "homeland security measures": "We need a Ron Paul in the White House more desperately now than we ever have at any time in our history." In an America led by the non-interventionist Dr. Paul, the world would see a more confident and less aggressive nation; a nation more humble, prosperous, and equitable; and a nation willing to let all other nations and peoples work out their own destinies, peaceably or violently, as they wish. America would get back to its own business and interests, and the rest of the post-Cold War world’s nations would be left alone to try, at long last, to grow into responsible adults. CNN-YouTube Debate Producer Doubts the Wisdom of the Crowd As Republican presidential contenders brace for Wednesday's CNN-YouTube debate, the executive in charge of the event is unapologetic about his decision to put mainstream journalists in charge of deciding which user-contributed YouTube videos the candidates will actually face on the air. Assume you, a Justice Department official, are a secret supporter ofTexas Rep. Ron Paul for president and want to help your candidate. You know Mr. Paul wants to abolish the Federal Reserve, the Internal Revenue Service, the FBI, and wants money to be backed by gold, silver and/or other precious metals. You also know his critics claim he is paranoid about the federal government abusing its powers.
You then realize that in one lightening action you can demonstrate Mr. Paul is not paranoid and, at the same time, highlight the issues of sound money and government abuse of civil liberties.
To do so you could have the FBI raid the offices of a Paul supporter who is making and selling "Ron Paul Dollars" made of copper, silver, gold and platinum, and seize all the coins. Bizarre as it sounds, that is exactly what agents of the FBI did last week. November 28, 2007Permalink

It would serve Republicans right if Michigan voters unhappy with this semi-election rocked the political establishment by delivering a primary victory to upstart GOP candidate Ron Paul. Religious conservatives dismiss Ron Paul because he will not come out and say things like -"If I were president I would work for (insert whatever moral legislation you wish)". This is precisely because Paul understands the Constitution and the dangers of progressivism. It seems we Christians are much happier supporting a reformed Rudy (hey Robertson says he is ok), or one of the other fellows because they take a stand on a moral issues (they talk a good game). We are missing the point, it is not the place of the federal government to regulate these issues, we ought to seek a man that would put these issues back where they belong - with us at out state houses. No country in the world would attempt to "annihilate" Israel. The politician who did so would be dooming himself and his entire nation to perish in nuclear flames. Israel has at least 300 nuclear bombs and the delivery systems necessary to "wipe Persia off the map" in the space of an afternoon. As Paul has noted, the U.S. triumphantly faced down the Soviet Union (who actually were an existential threat), while our modern day think-tankers say the only way to deal with nearly-helpless Iran is with preemptive war. So here's a question: When is the Washington press corps going to start treating Ron Paul as seriously as it does Fred Thompson?

Ron Paul continues to gather support, even changing the minds of some of the most stubborn in the mainstream media. As subtle as some of it may be, it’s real, and it’s happening now. This change, in my humble opinion, can be directly attributed to Paul’s consistent courage to tell the truth in front of the American people, even when that group of American people might want to hear more of the cheerleading that they’re getting from the other republican candidates for president.
